Michael J. LiPetri Jr. R
U.S. REPRESENTATIVE, 3RD DISTRICT
BACKGROUND
- LiPetri, 34, is running for Congress in the 3rd District.
- He served one term in the State Assembly, from 2019 to 2020, before running unsuccessfully in a Republican primary in 2020 for the 2nd Congressional District.
- He graduated from Albany Law School and worked for the New York City government, a U.S. attorney’s office and in private practice before running for political office.
ISSUES
- LiPetri said he wants to restore the ability for people to deduct state and local taxes from their federal taxes, reversing a change made by the Trump administration. He said he also wants more tax incentives for working mothers and easier startup loans for trade-based businesses.
- He said he wants to “fully secure” the border and deport those who entered the U.S. illegally. He is in favor of making immigration admission a merit-based system.
- LiPetri said he would allow federal attorneys to take over from district attorneys when local officials won’t prosecute some crimes.
