BACKGROUND

  • Martinez, 47, of Brentwood, is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election. She was elected to the State Senate in 2018 and, in a district with redrawn lines after redistricting, again in 2021.
  • Martinez was an assistant principal at Brentwood’s East Middle School and served five years in the Suffolk County Legislature. 
  • She received an undergraduate degree from Binghamton University and a master’s degree in secondary education New York University. Martinez obtained a school administration degree at Stony Brook University.

ISSUES

  • Martinez said that if reelected she would continue to seek increased funding for public safety programs, including those to address gun violence.
  • She said she would work to keep permanent the 2% cap on property tax growth.
  • Martinez said she would continue to work to remove excess nitrogen from the water supply and advocate for other water-quality improvements.
