BACKGROUND

  • Ramos, 68, of North Bay Shore, is running on the Democratic and Working Family party lines for a 12th term in the Assembly, where he is deputy speaker.
  • Ramos, who graduated from Brentwood High School, served 20 years with the Suffolk County police and also worked as a therapy aide at the Pilgrim Psychiatric Center.
  • He worked undercover in narcotics and as a detective handling major crime in the Third and Fifth precincts.

ISSUES

  • Ramos said he plans to prioritize affordability on Long Island and in his district through initiatives such as facilitating mixed workforce housing.
  • He said he would use his authority in the Assembly to leverage more state funds for his district. He helped secure $10 million for the revitalization of downtown Central Islip and is working to bring sewers to the area.
  • Education is another priority for Ramos, and he said he would protect the Foundation Aid formula, which the state uses to allocate funds to school districts.
