BACKGROUND

  • Bynoe, 57, of Westbury, was elected to the Nassau County Legislature in a 2014 special election. She is serving her fifth full term representing the 2nd Legislative District and is the alternate deputy minority leader.
  • She is principal of Acclaim Management Strategies, which provides consultation and strategic planning services to municipalities and private development corporations. Bynoe has been executive director of the Huntington Housing Authority and commissioner of the North Hempstead Housing Authority. She is a former Westbury school board member.
  • Bynoe holds an associate’s degree from Nassau Community College, and in 2001 graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Hofstra University and in 2006 earned a master’s degree in public administration from LIU Post, where she was later an adjunct professor. ISSUES

  • Bynoe said that if elected she would push for increased access to health care while protecting women’s rights and reducing maternal mortality rates. She said she has worked “collaboratively to sustain Nassau University Medical Center,” a safety-net hospital.
  • Bynoe said she would work to fully fund Long Island’s public schools, better fund early intervention and preschool services for children with developmental delays and other special needs, and expand after-school programming and career training opportunities.
  • She said she also would support the expansion of programs that deepen trust between law enforcement and communities, and would bolster recidivism reduction programs to decrease crime.
