DEMOCRAT
BACKGROUND: Curran, 45, is seeking the Democratic nomination to the Nassau County Legislature. She has the Independence and Working Families lines. Curran is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville. She is a former news reporter for the New York Post and Daily News and was once a top aide to former Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi. She is a Baldwin school board member, and she and her husband, John, have three children.
ISSUES: "Nassau's debt is now higher than it's ever been in the history of the county," she said. She said she would find new ways to increase the tax base by backing smart growth in downtown areas, and by keeping and attracting young people with affordable housing and 21st-century jobs. "The communities in the 5th Legislative District are well-positioned to be the model for this kind of smart growth," she said.
