Deceptive trade practices. Failure to enter written contracts. Performing work without a license.
A review of complaints and violations assessed to several contractors who have been placed on the Suffolk County Wall of Shame Registry multiple times show how contractors have faced similar criticism.
Records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, show the types of complaints listed against contractors as well as the number of violations found that remain unpaid.
This database will help you see if a contractor has been placed on the list.
Anyone seeking to hire a home contractor can search a license and complaint violations by visiting ca.suffolkcountyny.gov/dcasearch. The most up-to-date registry can be found at https://www.suffolkcountyny.gov/Departments/Consumer-Affairs/Wall-of-Shame.
