Amityville police arrested a Central Islip man early Saturday and charged him with drunken driving after a crash that hurt four people and forced a vehicle into a downtown storefront.

Police and firefighters were called about 3 a.m. to the crash at the Amityville Men’s Shop on Park Avenue where a Mercedes and a Nissan Sentra collided, sending the Mercedes into the front of the shop, police said.

Firefighters treated four people injured in the crash, including the driver of the Nissan and two passengers in the Mercedes who were hospitalized for their injuries.

Police arrested the driver of the Mercedes, Jeffrey White, 41, of Central Islip, who was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

Firefighters and paramedics from Amityville, North Amityville, Copiague, East Farmingdale and West Babylon responded to the crash with the Town of Babylon’s Technical Rescue Team to stabilize the building.

Police said White was arraigned at 11 a.m. Saturday in Amityville Village Court and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 13.
