Critically injured pedestrian in hit-run identified
The pedestrian critically injured in an East Farmingdale hit-and-run crash Tuesday has been identified as a man reported missing from a homeless shelter in New Jersey, Suffolk police said.
Kenneth Wiggins, 64, was walking on Wellwood Avenue near Conklin Street about 10:50 p.m. when he was hit by two vehicles, police said. He had been missing April 11 from a shelter in Hillside, N.J., police said.
He was first struck by a southbound Mercedes-Benz, whose driver stayed to stop traffic, but then Wiggins was struck by an older model silver Nissan Altima, which took off, police said.
The first driver, Oliver David, 41, of Freeport, was not charged.
The Nissan was last seen going south on Wellwood toward the Southern State Parkway, police said.
Wiggins suffered head and internal injuries and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said. Wiggins remained in critical condition Tuesday, police said.
Detectives ask anyone with information to call the vehicular crime unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477.
