DA: 2 Wyandanch men indicted on weapons charges may be tied to shooting spree

Two Wyandanch residents who authorities suspect are connected to a rash of gang-related drive-by shootings in the past three months have been indicted on felony weapons charges, according to court papers unsealed Monday.

Jamesley Dery, 19, and Jahnick Gainey, 17, sold firearms, including three loaded handguns, to an undercover officer four times in February and March, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said. The guns were a .32-caliber, a .380-caliber, a 9-mm handgun and a .25-caliber weapon, Spota said.

A third Wyandanch man, Charles Harris, 20, was indicted on a misdemeanor charge for driving Gainey and Dery to a fifth weapons sale, authorities said. He is also suspected in the shootings, officials said.

Prosecutors would not say how the three are allegedly connected to the shootings. They have not been charged and the intended victims have been uncooperative, officials said.

The three are part of the FAN, a Bloods set in Wyandanch that is fighting with the FLY Boys, a Bloods set in Amityville, North Amityville and Copiague, prosecutors said. The sets are "battling over drug turf" and feel they are being "disrespected" on social media, prosecutors said.

At least nine shootings between the two sets have occurred since the first one Jan. 22, in which shots were fired at Harris' home, officials said.

On Feb. 18, the gangs shot at each other in the Amityville High School parking lot, prosecutors said. No one was hit.

The most recent shooting occurred Sunday in Wyandanch.

Dery and Gainey were arraigned Monday in Central Islip criminal court on charges including criminal sale of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm from the Feb. 24 and Feb. 28 and March 4 and March 20 sales at a Wyandanch gas station. Each was held on $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond after their attorneys entered not guilty pleas.

Both are set to appear in court on April 29. Gainey's attorney Robert A. Macedonio, of Central Islip, said his client "expects to be fully exonerated."

Dery's attorney Chris Brocato of Central Islip declined to comment. Harris is charged with criminal facilitation, a misdemeanor, prosecutors said.

Harris will be arraigned April 21. He has a pending weapons possession charge from the shooting at his home.
