DOT: Route 231/Deer Park Avenue lanes to be closed for repairs
Beginning on Monday motorists should expect lane closures for concrete pavement repairs of State Route 231/Deer Park Avenue in the towns of Huntington and Babylon in Suffolk County.
A travel advisory issued by the state Department of Transportation said that starting on Monday between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. there will be short-term lane closures on State Route 231 between the Southern State Parkway and the Long Island Expressway.
Portable variable message signs have been placed along the 4 1⁄2 -mile route with additional information about the closures.
According to the travel advisory, the closures are part of a $6.4 million DOT project to maintain the roadway that is expected to be completed in the winter of 2018-19. Work will be completed during off-peak hours.
Motorists are asked to drive carefully through the work zone, obey speed restrictions and follow the instructions of the flag persons — for motorists’ safety and the safety of the highway work crew.
As with most road and bridge projects, work may be canceled, postponed or prolonged by inclement weather, the release said.
For real-time travel information motorists should call 511 or visit 511NY.org, New York State’s official traffic and travel information source.
