Two occupants of a Holtsville home were hospitalized after a Friday night fire, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said the fire broke out at a Hopes Avenue home around 9:49 p.m., prompting multiple departments to respond to the residence.

The departments “worked vigorously to extinguish a large fire, according to Joseph Castiglione, a public information officer with the Holtsville Fire Department.

Firefighters removed one person from the home and another resident was able to escape, he said.

Both were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, one in serious condition.

The fire was deemed under control by 10:47 p.m., according to a supervisor with Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services. Firefighters from Farmingville, Ronkonkoma, Holbrook, Medford and North Patchogue assisted Holtsville, and Sayville Ambulance also responded.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Suffolk County Arson Squad and the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal.
