A Long Island Rail Road train struck and killed a man who was on the tracks in Deer Park on Tuesday afternoon, an LIRR official said.
The fatality — which took place about 4:40 p.m. near Carlls Path and Long Island Avenue — prompted the suspension of service for more than an hour in both directions on the Ronkonkoma Branch between Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale, according to LIRR spokesman Aaron Donovan.
Service on the Ronkonkoma Branch was restored about 6:20 p.m., and the roads near the tracks, which were temporarily closed, were reopened, Donovan said.
The deceased victim is a "50-year-old male," Donovan said. His hometown and other details of his death remained under investigation by MTA police Tuesday evening, Donovan said.
He added the westbound train that struck the man took off from the Ronkonkoma Station at 4:11 p.m. and was headed toward Penn Station.
More information was not immediately available Tuesday night.
