Two men and a boy were rescued Sunday morning after their boat began taking on water in the Atlantic Ocean, Suffolk County police said.

Police said Michael Scaringi of Oakdale was piloting a 26-foot boat, named Something Fishy, about 7:30 a.m. when the vessel began taking on water due to a mechanical problem about one mile south of Robert Moses State Park in Babylon.

Scaringi called 911 and the U.S. Coast Guard, police said. As Scaringi and his friend were waiting for rescuers, a good Samaritan on another 26-foot boat approached Something Fishy and rescued Scaringi's 12-year-old son, police said.

Suffolk County Marine Bureau police officers and U.S. Coast Guard officials responded to the ailing vessel. The Coast Guard used a dewatering pump to begin salvaging Something Fishy, while Marine Bureau officers brought the boy onto their vessel, Marine X-Ray, police said.

Scaringi and his friend then stayed on Something Fishy, piloting it through Fire Island Inlet to the Captree State Park boat basin in Babylon, escorted by the Coast Guard, police said.
