RV veers off road, crashes into dry cleaner's in Melville, Suffolk police say
An RV driver veered off the roadway early Saturday morning in Melville, then crashed into a dry cleaner's storefront, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The crash occurred at 1 a.m. on Walt Whitman Road. Both the driver and his passenger, also a man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were brought to Huntington Hospital, according to the police press office, which said no one else was hurt.
Photos from the scene show the passenger side of the RV — a recreational vehicle, typically a motor home equipped as living quarters — wedged in the glass storefront of Nami Shirt & Laundry Services, located at 634 Walt Whitman Rd. The RV is shown tilted on its side, on the sidewalk between the storefront and a utility pole. Inside, customers' clothing hung in plastic bags, some smashed by the crash, are hung on garment conveyors.
A Huntington town building inspector was called to the scene to assess the structure, police said. No findings were immediately released.
Neither the driver's nor the passenger's name was disclosed.
