The pilot of a single-engine Cessna walked away from a hard landing Tuesday morning at Brookhaven Calabro Airport that collapsed the front landing gear and left the plane's nose down on a runway, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman told Newsday.

The identity of the pilot has not been released.

FAA spokesman Jim Peters said the pilot was the only person on board the Cessna 152 when it made a "hard nosewheel landing" on Runway 33 at 9:40 a.m. The hard landing collapsed the nose gear of the plane, Peters said.

"The damage is unknown," Peters said, adding that the FAA has characterized it as "an incident, not an accident." But Peters said the incident could be reclassified depending on the circumstances surrounding the landing and the amount of damage suffered to the aircraft.

He said investigators are en route to the scene.
