Pedestrian fatally struck by car crossing Route 25 in Southold

A pedestrian was fatally struck while crossing Route 25 in Southold village on Thursday, Southold Town police said.
Henry Goetz, 87, of Sugarloaf Key, Florida, was crossing at a marked crosswalk near the hamlet’s municipal lot around 12:30 p.m. when he was struck by a westbound 2022 Nissan, police said.
He had just visited a pharmacy before the accident, Southold Police Chief Steven Grattan said.
Goetz was treated at the scene and taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The 86-year-old driver of the Nissan was not injured.
The incident is under investigation, police said.
