Suffolk police said one person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident that left a truck overturned on westbound Sunrise Highway near Exit 43 in Bay Shore on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015. Credit: Jessica Rotkiewicz

Westbound Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore has reopened after an accident involving an overturned truck that closed the road for about five hours.

A police spokeswoman said a male in one of the two vehicles involved in the crash near Exit 43, Fifth Avenue, was seriously injured. He was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore and is expected to survive.

The state Department of Transportation website, informny.com, said the roadway was closed at about 7:46 a.m.

The road was reopened by about 12:40 p.m.
