Family mourns woman, 18, stabbed in Huntington Station

The father of the young woman who police said was found stabbed in the torso in Huntington Station Sunday said his daughter was a friendly person and he could not fathom why anyone would kill her.

"The only thing I could say about my daughter is that she was very social," said Cesar Rosales at the door of his Huntington Station home Monday just hours after police gave him the news about his daughter. "She's never had problems with anyone," he said.

Maggie Rosales, 18, of Huntington Station was found lying face down on Lynch Street after a 911 caller reported a woman injured in the roadway near Depot Road about 11:25 p.m. Sunday, police said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Suffolk County medical examiner, police said.

"It hurts my heart," Rosales said in Spanish, still in shock. "We wanted her to develop and grow up just like any ... [parent] would. I can't believe it."

Rosales said the family had lived in the area for two decades.

Throughout the day, relatives streamed in and out of Rosales' home to pay their condolences. Among them was Claudia Vilorio, who in July lost boyfriend Daniel Carbajal to violence just three blocks from the Rosales' family home. Carbajal, 25, was hit in the head after a man fired shots at him and a group of his friends outside a home on East Ninth Street, police said. The couple had been expecting a child.

Vilorio said Maggie Rosales was her sister-in-law from a previous marriage.

"She was a beautiful girl," Vilorio said, before she began to cry. "I can't talk right now."

No arrests have been made in Carbajal's case, said a police spokeswoman.

Police did not provide details of the stabbing or if a weapon was recovered.
