Prices Bend Beach in Eatons Neck was reopened to bathing Tuesday, after being closed Monday due to higher than acceptable bacterial levels, Suffolk County health officials said.

Samples now "show the water quality to be within acceptable levels," a news release said.

Copiague Harbor Beach, where high bacterial levels were also found, remains closed, officials said. That beach was closed May 21.

Bathing in contaminated water "can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose and throat," said Dr. James Tomarken, Suffolk health commissioner.

For information on affected beaches, see suffolkcountyny.gov/health.
