Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's former budget director, Robert Megna, has been named as Stony Brook University's new senior vice president for finance and administration.

Megna, executive director of the state Thruway Authority since January, previously served as state budget director, overseeing fiscal policy and the $145 billion annual state budget for Cuomo and former Gov. David A. Paterson.

Earlier, Megna had served as commissioner of the state Department of Taxation and Finance and in all held various state posts for more than two decades.

Megna will be responsible for managing Stony Brook's financial, administrative and facilities operations.

University officials declined Tuesday night to say how much Megna will earn. He will start in mid-January.
