Suffolk police report heroin overdose rescue
Suffolk County police said they revived a woman who had overdosed on heroin in Medford late Friday night.
Three officers from the Sixth Precinct responded to a call of an unconscious woman locked in a bathroom on Gull Avenue.
They gave the 19-year-old woman a dose of Narcan, and she regained consciousness. She was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Center in East Patchogue.
The Suffolk County Police Department is participating in the New York State Department of Health pilot program involving the deployment of Narcan, a prescription drug nose spray used to reverse opiate overdoses.
The program is being used by officers in all Suffolk County Police precincts, Marine Bureau and the Emergency Service Station.
