Queens woman seriously injured in Southern State Parkway crash in West Babylon, police say
A 59-year-old female driver from Queens was hospitalized with serious internal injuries after police said she was ejected from her car in an early morning one-car crash that closed all eastbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway Monday in West Babylon.
State police said the womanwas driving her 2004 Toyota Camry when it overturned on the rain-slicked roadway just before 3 a.m.
The accident scene was between Exit 36, Straight Path, and Exit 37.
The crash closed the eastbound parkway until about 9 a.m., according to the New York State Department of Transportation 511 NY website.
State police said the woman was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. Her condition was not immediately known Monday. She was alone in the vehicle, police said.
Video from the scene showed firefighters, police and medical crews and ambulances on scene. The guardrail in the area shows extensive damage.
Police said the cause of the accident is under investigation and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them at 631-756-3300.
A second crash, involving a light-colored Mercedes Benz that suffered heavy left front-end damage also occurred overnight. It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured in that crash.
