A list of area schools and universities closed over coronavirus concerns

All public and private schools through the 12th grade in Nassau and Suffolk counties will be closed starting Monday for two weeks in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The closings in the two counties were announced separately Sunday by Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.

New York City schools will also be closed as of Monday until at least April 20, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Sunday. He said it is possible they would stay closed the rest of the year.

The Diocese of Brooklyn and the Archdiocese of New York have announced the closings of Catholic elementary schools and parish schools for this week, from Monday through Friday March 20th. There is the possibility those closings may be extended.

Following  are Long Island and New York City universities and colleges that have closed already or are planning to temporarily close in response to concerns over the coronavirus:

LI colleges and universities:

• Adelphi University — On-campus classes are canceledthrough March 22, at the main campus in Garden City, as well as in Manhattan, Hudson Valley and the Suffolk Center in Hauppauge, officials said. Online classes will begin March 23 "until further notice."
• Farmingdale State College — The campus will be closed through March 22 after officials learned a "member of the campus community" had a confirmed case of the virus, according to a message posted on the college's website from university president John Nader. The person was quarantined and had not been on campus since March 7, a letter from the president said.

• Hofstra University — Classes will become online-only when spring break ends on March 23. The Zucker School of Medicine has canceled its Match Day ceremony. There are "no cases of coronavirus associated with Hofstra University," its website says.

• LIU — Effective Monday, LIU will move to online instruction at all locations through March 27.
• Molloy College — All on-campus classes will be replaced by online instruction through March 28, officials said. No one associated with the Rockville Centre college has tested positive for the virus, officials said.
• Nassau Community College — The campus will remain closed through Friday, March 20, after someone associated with the school tested positive for the virus. Online instruction will continue.
• St. Joseph's College — All classes at the college's Patchogue and Brooklyn campuses are closed through March 27, although there have been no confirmed cases of the virus from anyone associated with the school, officials said. The Dillon Center will remain closed until March 23. Online courses will continue as currently scheduled.
• Stony Brook University — The university announced on its website  that beginning after spring break next week, students will move to remote instruction starting March 23 for the remainder of the spring semester.

New York City universities:

• Columbia University — In a notice posted on the university's website, Columbia's president announced "all classes for the remainder of the semester will be conducted online. We encourage any students who are able to move out of undergraduate residence halls for the rest of the semester to do so, and we are ready to help in that process. Students who are able to move out of undergraduate residence halls for the rest of the semester are encouraged to do so."
• Fashion Institute of Technology — All classes are suspended through March 22 to allow faculty to prepare for potential online class instruction and for employees to prepare to work remotely. Beginning Monday, all large-scale FIT-sponsored events will be canceled for March and April. Decisions on May and June events will be made later. Staff will begin cleaning and sanitizing the campus. 
• Fordham University — All face-to-face classes across its campuses are canceled until further notice. Classes are being taught online and all on-campus events are canceled through at least March 29.
• John Jay College of Criminal Justice — All in-person classes are canceled for an instructional recess through Wednesday. Any fully online courses will proceed as regularly scheduled during that time. All classes in distance-learning format start Thursday
• Manhattan College — All on-campus classes were canceled, with online classes continuing through the week of March 23 after spring break, officials said. A decision will be made that week whether to resume on-campus classes during the week of March 30. School officials said there have been no confirmed or suspected cases of the virus at the college.
• New York Institute of Technology — In-person classes for Long Island and New York City campuses were suspended. "Going forward, all classes on these two campuses will be taught online, via videoconferencing, or with some combination of digital techniques until further notice," an NYIT statement said.
• NYU — Announced all classes will be conducted remotely. 
• Pace University — All on-campus classes at the school's campuses in lower and midtown Manhattan, as well as in Pleasantville, are replaced by online instruction through March 29, officials said.
• SUNY and City University of New York — All campuses in both systems “will release students to the best of their ability" on March 19, and switch to online instruction for the rest of the spring semester, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said.
• St. John's University — The university moved to online instruction  through March 27.
• Yeshiva University — All classes on its Beren and Wilf campuses move to online instruction through April 3, according to a notice on its website. A student, and an adjunct professor who hadn't been on campus for three weeks, both tested positive for the virus.
