Letter: Older people saved for 'rainy day'

Regarding the editorial "Young, desperate in U.S." [Nov. 11], I have just two words: Enough already! The editorial points out that the wealth gap between Americans 65 and older versus those younger than 35 is "the widest such disparity ever recorded."
All the statistics cited fail to point out the major disparity between the young and the elderly: instant gratification for the young versus delayed gratification for my generation. My generation planned for the future, saved for a rainy day and now has something to show for it.
Yes, the times are tough, but no tougher than they were in 1978 during the Carter presidency, with high interest rates, gas lines and a poor job outlook.
