49°Good afternoon

Middle Island's own Sanjay Singh, a freshman New York University film student, appeared last night on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," in which a comedy short he directed was featured on the program.

Signh, along with other students at NYU's Kanbar Institute of Film and Television, was given one week to create a short comedy that's 90 seconds or less using a Flip cam and incorporating the words dairy, sprint and remorse. Singh's film was one of three clips screened on the program out of 17 submissions considered for "Jay’s Student Film Festival and Critical Review."

Singh's film, "Double Stuf Dunk," follows the experiences of Mike, an overweight, hairy guy with an unfortunate condition. He smells. He sweats when he walks, the way a normal person does when they sprint. His friend Greg says dairy can help get rid of the stench, so he takes a milk bath. But the bath has a side-effect. Mike loses his hair, making him feel great remorse for taking his friend's advice.

At the end, the narrator repeats that Mike has a problem. "He's bald, but at least he smells good."

Guest film critic Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun Times gave the film a thumbs-up, calling it "original" and "daring," and his favorite of the three.
