Alaska wildlife officials are deciding what's next for a group of ducklings that wandered into a Fairbanks hardware store.

The Fairbanks Daily News Miner reports Alaska Industrial Hardware employee Tammy Madeiros says the five tennis-ball-sized birds would have had to waddle across four lanes of traffic Wednesday afternoon to make it inside the store.

Four of the five birds were removed without incident, but one got stuck under a vending machine before U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service technicians arrived.

Federal officials couldn't be reached for comment Wednesday night, but Alaska Department of Fish and Game Spokeswoman Cathie Harms said the agency will likely attempt to find the ducklings' mother and leave them with her, or place them with an animal caretaker.
