Although nothing has been officially announced, I hear that Bertie Carvel, who plays the villainous Miss Trunchbull at “Matilda,” is expected to leave the Broadway company at the end of the summer when his contract ends. The show’s press office could not confirm his final performance as of Wednesday.

Producer still wants ‘Rebecca’ on Broadway
It’s not over yet, says Ben Sprecher, the producer of the sinking ship that is the musical “Rebecca,” which has twice delayed its Broadway bow due to financial difficulties, fraud and scandal. Sprecher told Playbill.com this week that he now hopes to bring “Rebecca” to Broadway sometime next year. Even if “Rebecca” is never staged, it’s sure to provide many more news items.

Minnelli, Cumming slated to bring show to B’way
Liza Minnelli and Alan Cumming, who appeared together in a concert at Town Hall a few weeks ago, will bring their act to Broadway’s Marquis Theatre for a handful of performances in December, as reported by Michael Musto in his new column at Out.com. During his solo concerts, Cumming has often performed “Mein Herr,” the song that Minnelli made famous in the film version of “Cabaret.”

‘Bombshell’ concert apparently in the works
The inevitable stage adaptation of “Bombshell,” the musical about Marilyn Monroe featured throughout the recently canceled TV series “Smash,” may see the light of day sooner than expected. According to composer Marc Shaiman, who penned the songs with Scott Wittman, a “Bombshell” concert is being eyed as an upcoming charity event.

Public Theater looking to transfer ‘Here Lies Love’
The Public Theater confirmed to The New York Times this week that it hopes to transfer its hit musical “Here Lies Love” to another space, be it Broadway or Off-Broadway, that can handle its unique staging demands, in which the audience wanders around a club-like atmosphere and the actors walk around shifting platforms. The production closes at the Public on Sunday following an extended run.

Hill to join Fantasia in ‘Midnight’
Dulé Hill, best known for playing presidential aide Charlie Young on “The West Wing,” will join Fantasia Barrino in the forthcoming Broadway musical “After Midnight,” a revue celebrating the work of Duke Ellington and Harlem’s fashionable Cotton Club.

‘Normal’ team working on ‘Magic Mike’ musical
A month ago, we reported how a Broadway musical of the Steven Soderbergh film “Magic Mike” was in the works. Now we hear that Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, the songwriting team behind the Pulitzer-winning hit “Next to Normal,” have been tapped to write the score. The duo are also working on “If/Then,” an original musical starring Idina Menzel that will play Broadway next season.
