Best bars for football-watching

Football is a team sport — and so is watching it. Check out the playoff games this weekend at spots where you can find revelers cheering for your team.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Sat., 4:30 p.m. (CBS)

STEELERS: Pittsburgh’s fanatical Steeler followers certainly don’t need an excuse to wave their Terrible Towels, but the 300 to 400 people who pack Public House (140 E. 41st St., 212-682-3710) on game days get even wilder because of the bar’s specials. Bud and Bud Light drafts are free a half-hour before the game and drafts are $1 during the first quarter, $2 during the second and so on. For a more low-key experience, head to Angels & Kings (500 E. 11th St., 212-254-4090), where bar manager — and Pittsburgh native — Dennis McLynn gets the 40 or so fans revved up with black-and-gold shots ($8), Iron City beer ($4) and local chow.

RAVENS: Wharf Bar & Grill’s (587 Third Ave., 212-490-7270) deck turns into a “Raven’s Roost” on game days, complete with banners, flags, signs and — of course — a sea of purple-and-black jersey-clad fans tossing back pints (all 16 beers on draft are $3.50) and gobbling up Maryland crab cakes. Also check out Ravens haven SideBAR (120 E. 15th St., 212-677-2900), which is holding a Bud Light chugging contest during the game this weekend.

New York Jets vs. New England Patriots
Sun., 4:30 p.m. (CBS)

JETS: Practically every bar you walk into on Sunday afternoon will be showing the Jets game (this is New York, after all), but we’ve found a few with particularly celebratory specials. Every time the Jets score a touchdown, all customers at Killarney Rose (127 Pearl St., 212-422-1486) get a free cocktail. Wildwood Barbecue (225 Park Ave. S., 212-533-2500) is offering a few appropriately named specials, including a Rex Ryan tribute called “The Foot Fetish” (smoked pork shank and green mashed potatoes). The Iron Horse (32 Cliff St., 646-448-4471) is giving away free burgers and hot dogs with the purchase of most drinks, and Loreley Restaurant & Biergarten (64 Frost St., Williamsburg, 718-599-0025) is taking $1 off the price of beer for each Jets touchdown. The more the Jets score, the less expensive the brews get — i.e. three touchdowns equals $3 off drinks.

PATRIOTS: When in Gotham, New England fans need a safe haven to take in any sport — especially when one of their teams is pitted against one from New York. Enter Professor Thoms’ (219 Second Ave., 212-260-9481), which shows all Boston games and provides just that, co-owner Pete Levin said. “The Patriots games are complete madness,” said Levin, whose business partner used to run Riviera Cafe & Sports Bar (225 W. 4th St., 212-929-3250) — “the other Boston bar in the city.” Specials at Thom’s include $4 pints of Harpoon Ale and $3 shots of chilled Absolut Boston.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Chicago Bears
Sun., 1 p.m. (FOX)

SEAHAWKS: Carlow East (1254 Lexington Ave., 212-650-9118) has made itself the home for Seattle’s far-flung fans. Need proof? “Last week I felt the room literally shake below my feet when the Hawks got the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter,” bartender Pat Shalvoy said. A free buffet (salad, wings, sausage, pasta) and $3 post-TD Hawk-ikaze shots keep the crowd satisfied. As for traditions, “the chants have become well-known in our circle but you’d have to come hear them for yourself,” Shalvoy said. 

BEARS: Could Bears fans get any more hardcore than this? At Canal Bar (270 Third Ave., Gowanus, 718-246-0011), games are shown in the backyard on a projector screen for the “real tough Chicago fans who can brave the cold and snow,” said manager Althea Graham. For fans who aren’t so brave? The inside is pretty nice, too. On game days, Canal — which Chicago gal Graham has built up into a Bears bar over the past four years — turns into a “fun, packed monster,” with fans singing, eating free (and imported) build-your-own-Chicago-hot dogs (starting at halftime) and drinking homemade Bloody Marys ($5). If you’re looking for a spot in Manhattan, Overlook (225 E. 44th St., 212-682-7266) has made itself into a pretty rocking home for fans of Da Bears.

Green Bay Packers vs. Atlanta Falcons
Sat., 8 p.m. (FOX)

PACKERS: The West Village’s Kettle of Fish (59 Christopher St., 212-414-2278) has made such a name for itself as a Green Bay bar that fans are cautioned to come early, as crowds often overflow the bar. The draw? All TVs are tuned to the game (with sound running through the audio system), and the bar offers complimentary cheese, crackers and sausage. Oh, and of course there are the crazy fans. Also check out Angry Wade’s (224 Smith St., Carroll Gardens, 718-488-7253).

FALCONS: Falcons fans flock to Village Pourhouse’s Restaurant Row branch (366 W. 46th St., 212-979-2337) to watch their team (there’s usually a line to get in). Game-day specials include $10 Bud Light pitchers and $5 shots of the Atlanta-based 901 Tequila.
