The Coast Guard says a cargo ship clipped the Brooklyn Bridge, but no injuries or damage were reported.

It happened Friday night when the ship named Rainbow Quest was heading out to sea. Coast Guard spokeswoman Ali Flockerzi says the ship left the Brooklyn Navy Yard and was heading down the East River at about 10:30 p.m. when its mast brushed against the bottom of the iconic span linking Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Flockerzi says the Metropolitan Transportation Authority had already scheduled a routine closure on the bridge late Friday and inspected the span when it was closed. She says there was no damage to the bridge.

According to the New York Post, the river's tide was high, but not at its highest point of the night, when the Rainbow Quest struck the bridge.
