Ex-IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn is claiming that the midtown hotel maid who accused him of rape ruined his political life, and he's taking her to court for payback.
Strauss-Kahn filed a countersuit against Nafissatou Diallo in the Bronx on Monday, a year to the day that he had his sexual encounter with her at the Sofitel hotel in Times Square.
Attorneys representing the 63-year-old Strauss-Kahn said the negative press generated by Diallo's accusations not only cost him his position at the IMF but also his chance at being the French president.
"Her conduct is not without consequence for her, and he is not required to simply endure what she did and her effort to profit for herself without fighting back," attorney William W. Taylor said in a statement.
DSK is seeking at least $1 million in damages, according to the suit.
Diallo, 33, contends that the married French leader tried to rape her, but Strauss-Kahn - who is being investigated by French authorities for an alleged involvement with a prostitution ring - claims the incident was consensual.
The Manhattan DA's office indicted Strauss-Kahn on sexual assault and attempted rape charges last year but dropped their case after Diallo's credibility was brought into question.
The African immigrant filed a sexual assault civil suit against Strauss-Kahn last summer, and two weeks ago, a Bronx judge denied a request from the French attorney to toss the case. Diallo's attorneys did not return requests for comment.
