Guinness World Record set for most people twerking at once. Yep.

"Hip"sters invaded Herald Square Wednesday as 358 people with various levels of awareness to rhythm and coordination pulsated posteriors to set the Guinness World Record for most people twerking simultaneously.

The stunt was a promotion for Fuse TV's reality TV show, "Big Freedia Queen of the Bounce," which debuts 11 p.m. Oct. 2.

"We definitely want the bounce to become mainstream," Freedia told amNY. But she (Big Freedia prefers a feminine pronoun) also wanted New Yorkers to realize that twerking is just one ingredient in the rich and savory jambalaya that comprises bounce dancing. "We want people to know all the dances, like the wobble clap and the bending over and the busting open," she said.

Freedia complained after the VMAs that Miley Cyrus's lascivious performance appropriated - poorly - an Afro-centric dance with New Orleans roots, but Her Highness had no hard feelings for the "Wrecking Ball" singer Wednesday. "I'm grateful to Miley!" for promoting bounce awareness, Freedia said.

Participants pumped their rumps for many reasons.

Jenett Lacy, 30, an administrative assistant from Williamsburg, grew up in New Orleans and was thrilled to reconnect with the music and dance moves of her youth. "We used to sneak out of school to see Big Freedia and for (her) to put bounce music on the map here is a really big thing," Lacy said.

"I've always wanted to be in the Guinness Book of World Records and I don't have any other talent," said actress Shantay Henry, 24, of Harlem.

Heather Crewe, 48, a swimming coach from London, joined in on impulse and to prove to her 23 and 18-year-old daughters that mom isn't quite ready for the rest home."You've got only one life and you've got to make it count!" Crewe trilled.

Air horns sounded. Big Freedia's song, "Go Duffy," blared. Everyone twerked for two minutes straight, careful to abide by rules requiring them to remain upright, and to keep the thrusts pulsing from the hips, not the knees.

NYC's twerkoff, however, did not impress the Shake Team Divas, Queen Freedia's limber Elvis-pelvised dancers, who performed with her.

New York twerkers "got a lotta work to do," pronounced the single-named Diva Stephanie. "This is nuthin' compared to at home. You have to move everything! They need more energy!" she exhorted after the event.

"Practice in the mirror makes perfect," Queen Freedia confided. "When you see it, you can make it move all kinds of ways," she said.
