A former NYPD officer pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges that he shot and killed his wife in their Queens home, the Queens district attorney's office announced.

Kevin Canty, 44, of Ozone Park, Queens, pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter charges before Queens Supreme Court Justice Kenneth C. Holder.

Canty was arrested April 19, 2014, after shooting Jessica Canty, 40, multiple times in their home, Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said in a news release. The couple's children, ages 5 and 8, were home at the time, Brown said.

The former NYPD transit officer, who retired on disability, fled the scene, but was arrested a short time later with the weapon, the district attorney said.

Holder indicated that he would sentence the former officer to 25 years in prison at Canty's next court date on Jan. 6.

"This is a tragic story with no winners, only losers. There is a mother who senselessly lost her life, a husband who stands convicted of her death, and their children who must grow up without the love or comfort of either parent," Brown said in the statement. "While the defendant will have to live with what he did for the rest of his life, the sentence to be imposed is more than warranted."

Canty's attorney, Mark Pollard of Manhattan, did not immediately return a call for comment.
