George Harrison gets his due in new doc

"George Harrison: Living in the Material World" will tell you everything you've ever wanted to know about the Beatles' lead guitarist. Director Martin Scorsese explores the life and career of the "quiet" Beatle from his early days to his time with the Fab Four through to his solo career. The documentary, which aired on HBO, clocks in at more than three hours, does run long after a while, but there is no denying Scorsese's craft. Scorsese features some never-before-seen footage and he collected a veritable who's who of the music world to talk about Harrison, including Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, George Martin, Ravi Shankar, Phil Spector, Eric Clapton, and the list just keeps going on and on. When people discuss the Beatles, John Lennon and McCartney are usually the names people bring up first - it's always nice when George can get his due. (DVD or Blu-ray, $24.98)

'Haywire'
Director Steven Soderbergh hired a real-life MMA fighter, Gina Carano, to star in his new thriller, with a great supporting cast, including Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum and Michael Douglas. (DVD, $29.95; Blu-ray, $39.99)

'New Year's Eve'
Dear Garry Marshall, you could get every actor in the world to star in your bloated romantic comedies, but I'm still not going to care. Go watch the older flicks you directed, like "Pretty Woman" and "Overboard," and try to recreate that magic please. (DVD, $28.98; Blu-ray, $29.98; Blu-ray/DVD combo, $35.99)

'Joyful Noise'
It's like "Glee" in a church! Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton team up for this musically-minded film about two tough gals who save a gospel choir. (DVD, $28.98; Blu-ray, $29.98; Blu-ray/DVD combo, $35.99)

'Clueless'
Like, so, the classic Alicia Silverstone 1990s comedy is making its Blu-ray debut hot on the heels of the news that Silverstone pre-chews food for her son Bear to eat. That has nothing to do with the movie, but it's pretty unusual and I wanted you to know. (Blu-ray, $22.99)

'Mimic: 3-Film Set'
You're going to get three "Mimic" movies for the price of one! The first film of this horror trilogy is the winner here: It's directed by Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth") and stars Mira Sorvino, Charles S. Dutton and Josh Brolin. The other two aren't in the same class, but if you liked the first, you'll likely get some pleasure out of the sequels. (DVD, $19.98; Blu-ray, $29.99)

'Suits: Season 1' 'Covert Affairs: Season 2'
A pair of season sets from two of the newer USA series. Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams are quirky lawyers in "Suits" and Piper Perabo is a quirky CIA agent in "Covert Affairs." ('Suits' DVD, $44.98; 'Covert' DVD, $39.98)
