NYPD: Detectives seek custody of suspect in Queens slaying of girlfriend, daughters

NYPD detectives flew to Texas Tuesday to seek custody of the suspect wanted in a gruesome triple slaying of his girlfriend and their two young daughters in Queens, officials said.

A spokesman for the Fayette County Sheriff's Office in Texas said that the suspect, Miguel Mejia-Ramos, 28, was arrested by local police and sheriff deputies during a traffic stop late Monday night on Interstate 10. The NYPD must determine whether he'll return with detectives voluntarily.

Mejia-Ramos is wanted in New York City as a suspect in the stabbing deaths of Deisy Garcia, 21, and their daughters, Daniela, 2, and Yoselin, 1, whose bodies were found Sunday by officers responding to a 911 call at their apartment in South Jamaica, police said.

He was driving a 2001 white van heading south toward the border with Mexico when he was stopped by Texas police, said Lt. David Beyer of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. Mejia-Ramos didn't resist when approached by police, and according to one official, "seemed like he was relieved" when stopped, said Beyer.

The location of the stop in Schulenburg, Texas, is about three to four hours from the border, noted Beyer.

Detectives from the 103rd Precinct in Queens were going to see if Mejia-Ramos would waive extradition and voluntarily return to New York, said Beyer. If Mejia-Ramos intends to fight extradition, court proceedings could take at least an additional month, he said.

Investigators said Mejia-Ramos stabbed Garcia, whom authorities described as his girlfriend, and their two daughters numerous times during an attack in a one-bedroom apartment at 90-20 Sutphin Blvd.

Each victim had what police described as "multiple stab wounds" -- Garcia and her 2-year-old daughter had wounds to the torso; the 1-year-old had wounds to the chest. All three were pronounced dead at the scene soon after officers arrived about 7:07 p.m.
