If strength is measured by how well a team adapts to changing personnel, then Massapequa is among the strongest programs on Long Island.

After a victory over Uniondale on April 30, Massapequa clinched its fifth consecutive Conference I championship. The Chiefs have won 64 consecutive league meets, dating to April 2008. Since 2006, the Chiefs have lost eight times, according to coach Mike Lisa.

This year's squad is as diverse as it is strong. Amanda Moore, who will attend Cortland next fall, has run 12.5 in the 100 meters and 25.2 in the 200. Julie Turano had run a 12.6 in the 100 and a 25.6 in the 200. Jamie Schlesinger has run 2:19.0 in the 800. Meghan Porr anchors a strong field unit, throwing the discus 117 feet, 9 inches and the shot put 35-1 this season. Alyssa Ianuzzi has cleared 9 feet in the pole vault, long jumped 16-4, and triple jumped 33-6, according to Lisa.

"If we are going to move forward and push for a championship title, all that diversity has to come together," Lisa said.

The Chiefs will vie for a Division A-I championship Monday at Syosset.
