The last Roy Rogers on Long Island has closed.
Dave Coffman, a regional facilities manager for the Hardee’s Food Systems, which owned the franchise, said the lease was ending for the Shirley location at the end of December and they decided to close it before the cold weather kicked in.
The location’s last day was Monday.
George Zaglool of Mastic got a call from his daughter yesterday to tell him about the closing, so he stopped by today for a last look.
“It was disappointing,” said Zaglool, who bought chicken at least once a week at the restaurant, located on William Floyd Parkway between Sunrise Highway and Montauk Highway.
Meanwhile, two other chain restaurants have recently cropped up nearby.
An Applebee’s, in the Floyd Harbor Retail Center across the street from Roy Rogers on Montauk Highway, opened last year. And a Friendly’s restaurant opened a few months ago about a quarter-mile down the road on Montauk Highway.
