Officials in the Town of Babylon are warning residents about the $500 fine that will be imposed for allowing bamboo to grow out of control.

Officials approved the new law yesterday, according to Newsday.

Officials say residents must keep their bamboo in a planter or use plastic barriers to keep the invasive plant from spreading.

The plant also needs to be at least 10-feet away from the property line.

Officials say anyone who violated the rules will face up to $500 a day in fines.
