Early morning fog gave way to more favorable skies for flying as the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach began at 10 a.m. Saturday.

But chances of showers and possible thunderstorms could still be a concern, said Michael Layer, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Upton.

"Through most of the day we're seeing partly to mostly cloudy skies," Layer said.

Low clouds are a concern because participants in the air show need three nautical miles of visibility and a cloud ceiling of 1,500 feet -- or 1,000 feet with Federal Aviation Administration approval -- to perform.

Drizzle and clouds caused The Blue Angels to cancel a scheduled practice Friday.

Temperatures Saturday are expected to be in the 80s. There is also a moderate risk of rip currents at ocean beaches Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The rest of the weekend will be partly cloudy with some breaks of sun in the afternoons, Layer said.

Sunday is expected to be a little cooler, with highs in the 70s.

Monday, Memorial Day, should be warmer again with temperatures back in the 80s.

The weather is slightly warmer and more humid than is normal for this time of year, Layer said.

"It doesn't look like any of the three days will be a wash though," Layer said.
