While there's considerable uncertainty at this point, meteorologists are eyeing conditions that could result in a possible storm Saturday into Sunday, bringing the "potential for some wintry precipitation" on Long Island.

Cold Canadian air is forecast to dip south into the area Saturday, bringing daytime temperatures down to the upper 40s to low 50s, into the 30s overnight and mid-40s Sunday, said David Stark, National Weather Service meteorologist based in Upton.

There's also potential for a low pressure area to "develop somewhere off the East Coast," he said, with timing and track to be determined.

So, while there is potential over the weekend for a mixture of "something other than rain" and "a few flakes flying in the air," it's too early to pin down any specifics, he said.

In a graphic posted on Twitter and Facebook, the weather service indicated that a track to the west would mean Long Island could see a higher impact, and one to the east would mean a lower impact. As for what that impact could be, "Please stay tuned!" the graphic said.
