79°Good evening

A line of showers and isolated thunderstorms are moving through New York City Tuesday evening and are headed toward Long Island, forecasters said.

The weather is causing departure delays at LaGuardia and Kennedy airports, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The showers and storms are moving slowly and are weakening as they head east, so severe storms are not expected on the Island, National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Pollina said.

More showers and thunderstorms may develop behind the line, affecting the area until around 2 a.m., he said.

As of shortly after 6 a.m., temperatures ranged from the upper 60s on the South Shore to 80 degrees at LaGuardia, Pollina said.
