The "perfect"weather that blessed Mother's Day celebrations across Long Island on Sunday will continue into Monday, the National Weather Service projects.

For the second straight day, sunny skies with temperatures in the low-to-mid-70s and minimal wind is on tap Monday, according to the weather service forecast.

"It’s perfect outside," National Weather Service meteorologist Jay Engle said Sunday. "Take a peek out the window and you’re going to have a lot of sunshine."

But the dry conditions might not continue much longer. A chance of rain exists for the overnight hours Monday into Tuesday, and increases into Wednesday, Engle said.

"It starts to turn unsettled late Monday night into Tuesday, that’s when the chance of showers starts to increase," Engle said. "Not a wash out."

The weather service forecast shows a 30% chance of showers Tuesday afternoon, 40% chance Tuesday evening up to 70% by Wednesday night.

"Unsettled into midweek," Engle said.

High temperatures should hover around the mid-60s and upper-70s through Wednesday, Engle said.

The long-range forecast also shows a chance of showers through next weekend, though temperatures are expected to climb back into the upper 70s by Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
