I recently received my E-ZPass pass bill for January and February. The congestion toll fee of $9, I understood, is to be reduced to $6 if a driver uses any of the toll tunnels or bridges.

But here’s the catch: It’s only a $1.50 credit, not $3, if a vehicle does not enter and leave the city the same day. If a person stays overnight and returns to Long Island the next day, there’s no full credit. It drops in half to $1.50.

So, if someone spends the night in Manhattan and shells out plenty of money there, the city’s thank you is a whopping $1.50 credit.
