After reading "Post offices face ax" [News, July 27], I was very saddened and upset. I am really fed up with what is going on in this country: more people out of work.

I grew up when there were elevator operators, and it was a safe feeling stepping into one, but automation came in and put people out of jobs. Then the computer took over how many jobs? We need progress to what degree?

We are hurting ourselves. Stop all this excess in America. Get back to basics, or is it too late? We are a country of the people and the people are hurting.

We need more regulation as to what a machine can do and what a person can do. Create jobs not machines. How much faster can we go? It is hurting us, not helping us.

The talk around town is that the post office is considering closing on Saturdays in the near future. I'd like some thought to be given to closing on Wednesdays instead.

By closing on Saturdays, the post office would make no deliveries for two straight days, which would make for an accumulation of mail from Friday afternoons to Monday mornings.

Being closed on Wednesdays would make for a better distribution of mail.
