In response to your story regarding Sunrise Highway ["Demand for safety," News, Aug. 18], one important issue that must be addressed is enforcement of traffic regulations.

Speeding, running red lights, talking on cellphones, texting behind the wheel, failure to yield to emergency vehicles -- the list goes on. All the money spent on infrastructure is to no avail unless the situation of enforcement is addressed. It's a wonder there aren't more accidents on this road.

Everyone wants input on how to make Sunrise Highway safer, but then in a photo on Page A3 there is a pedestrian crossing the highway with his phone in hand, earplugs in and talking into his microphone. A picture tells a thousand stories. Enough said!
