It’s too early to make predictions for the 2025 Major League Baseball season, but hope remains eternal while the excitement of the 2024 Mets and Yankees seasons also remains.

As a lifelong Mets fan, I was thrilled to attend the playoff game when the Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies to advance to the National League Championship Series against the Dodgers. The 4-1 victory over the favored Phillies was historic — the Mets’ first postseason series clincher at Citi Field.

The drama, the crowd, the light show, the music, the fireworks and, of course, the players made for an unforgettable experience, but there was more — a sense of camaraderie that I had never witnessed. Certainly not on such a grand scale.

More than 44,000 people of every demographic shared a common joy. Strangers looked each other in the eye, embraced and exchanged high fives. For that moment in time, all was well with the world.

Hopefully, the magic of that cool October evening will continue to inspire the “amazin’ ” team to add to its legacy. Regardless of how this season unfolds, we’ll always have the great achievement on that glorious night, providing a forum in which our better angels came out and led the way.
