Yankees' 3-4-5 hitters: 1 RBI
Don Mattingly used to question those covering his Yankee days when they judged him on his first 100 at-bats.
So to pass judgment or criticize or deride any baseball player through the first six games of a season is a waste of time. But, with just 3.7 percent of the season being all we have to analyze so far, here's a noteworthy nugget: The 3-4-5 hitters for the Yankees have a combined RBI total of . . . one.
A look at the numbers thus far:
Robinson Cano: 30 plate appearances, 7-for-28, 0 RBIs, 0-for-5 and 1 BB with RISP
Alex Rodriguez: 29 plate appearances, 4-for-23, 0 RBIs, 0-for-8 and 2 BB with RISP
Mark Teixeira: 29 plate appearances, 5-for-25, 1 RBIs, 1-for-8, 1 BB and 1 HBP with RISP
The Yankees as a team have scored 29 runs and totaled 27 RBIs in their first six games (3-3).
Again, what do these numbers mean in the grand scheme of the 2012 season? Nothing, but it's all we have to go on as the Yankees prepare for their home opener on Friday.
