Electronics Arts Inc., the video game publisher, said it will remove Ray Rice from its Madden NFL 15 title after the National Football League suspended the player following a video that showed him assaulting his wife.

Electronic Arts will make the roster change by the end of the week, the Redwood City, California-based company said in an e-mail today. The Baltimore Ravens terminated the contract of Rice and the NFL suspended the running back after website TMZ released a video of the Rice knocking out his then-fiancee in an elevator.

"With Ray Rice's indefinite suspension from the NFL, he will be removed from Madden NFL 15," a spokeswoman for EA said by e-mail.

EA periodically issues updates online to change the both disk content and digital versions of the game.

The game's removal of Rice from its line-up comes after the player's name has been stripped from a number of brands. The Ravens said they will offer exchanges for the player's jerseys at stadium stores. Nike terminated Rice's contract, the sportswear company said today.

EA released Madden NFL 15, the latest iteration of its best-selling sports game, last month and analysts including Doug Creutz of Cowen & Co. expect it to generate more than $350 million in revenue.
