Secondary prepared for Dolphins’ Jarvis Landry
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie doesn’t think he’ll be overwhelmed by the athleticism of Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry this week because he faces that kind of player just about every day in practice.
“The good thing we have is we go against it and see it so much in practice, you’re not at ‘wow!’ ” Rodgers-Cromartie said on Thursday, referring to teammate Odell Beckham Jr. “All you can do is get up there and challenge the guy. He makes the tough catches; you just have to make it tougher for him. Don’t shy away from it because he has that ability. You embrace it and just go out there and play.”
Prince Amukamara, the other starting cornerback, agreed. “They are pretty much similar, especially with ‘catchability’ and just the type of flair that they bring to the game,” Amukamara said. “It’s going to be exciting.”
Kennard in boot
Linebacker Devon Kennard has been wearing a protective boot on his injured right foot since last week. Kennard tried to practice Dec. 2 but could not complete the workout. He did not play against the Jets.
While he was far from forthcoming with details, Kennard said the foot had been bothering him a bit going into the Washington game two weeks ago and then was “stepped on and twisted” in that contest. He provided neither a specific diagnosis nor a prognosis for return.
Giant steps
In regard to WR Rueben Randle’s statement in a radio interview this week that he is frustrated by limited opportunities in the offense, Tom Coughlin said: “I would take full advantage of the ones that I do have before I would talk about opportunities.” . . . LT Ereck Flowers (ankle) did not practice but the Giants hope he can work on Friday . . . RT Marshall Newhouse (back), who did not play against the Jets, was limited. S Brandon Meriweather (knee) also was limited . . . Danny Aiken participated in his first full practice as the long-snapper after being signed on Tuesday to replace Zak DeOssie (wrist, IR). “Obviously it’ll be something that the opponent will be most interested in,” Coughlin said, “but he’s a big guy and hopefully he’ll be able to hold up in there.”
