Sure, it’s only the second day of OTAs. But the sight of Stephen Hill on the sideline during practice isn’t the way the Jets wanted to start the offseason.

The good news is, the second-year receiver didn’t suffer a new injury. Hill said he sat out Wednesday’s practice due to trainer’s orders due to swelling in his knee. Though Rex Ryan was unsure which knee is the issue, it’s assumed Hill is experiencing swelling in his right knee – the site of his LCL surgery back in December.

But Hill wasn’t the only receiver missing in action.

“We had a good-lloking receiving core that wasn’t out there today,” said Ryan, referring to the absence of Santonio Holmes (Lisfranc), Hill, Clyde Gates (hamstring) and Jordan White. “…It’s similar to the issues we had last year when we only had three receivers. So I think we had six out there today. …Those are some issues sometimes when you up the competition level, guys compete and things like that, sometimes you have a tendency to maybe stretch out for a ball more than you probably should.”
