Babylon football remains atop final fall Big 10

1. BABYLON FOOTBALL
The Panthers earned the BIG 10 Fall title with a stirring 27-26 win over Roosevelt in the Long Island Class IV championship. Jake Carlock's interception with 1:36 remaining sealed the win. It was the second straight Long Island crown for Babylon, which extended its winning streak to 24 games and became the first team in Long Island history to go 12-0 in back-to-back seasons.
2. ST. ANTHONY'S BOYS SOCCER
St. Anthony's won its first boys soccer state championship since 2008 on Nov. 11. Josh Weiss recorded 21 shutouts this season, breaking the school record of 16. The Friars scored 71 goals and allowed only three, the fewest goals St. Anthony's ever surrendered.
3. MASSAPEQUA BOYS SOCCER
The Chiefs captured their first-ever state title in boys soccer, with a 1-0 win over Fairport at Middletown High School. Dylan Nealis scored in the 58th minute and defenders John Romano, Chris McGrath and Kevin Mazol excelled on the defensive side. Dan Vitiello had 12 saves in the shutout, which was his 12th of the season.
4. MASSAPEQUA GIRLS SOCCER
Alyssa Iannuzzi helped bring another state title back to Massapequa by scoring the winning goal with 8:02 remaining in a 2-1 win over North Rockland in the Class AA title game. Olivia Stegner opened the scoring with her first goal of the season as the Chiefs captured the fifth state title in program history.
5. ST. ANTHONY'S FOOTBALL
The junior halfback tandem of Jordan Gowins and Naim Jones keyed St. Anthony's 35-0 win over Chaminade to capture the CHSFL championship. Gowins scored on a 47-yard run to open the third quarter for a 14-0 lead and Jones had three touchdowns in the win. St. Anthony's won for the 11th straight game and finished 11-1.
6. CAREY FOOTBALL
The Seahawks earned the Long Island Class II championship with a thorough 20-6 win over Riverhead to finish 12-0. The Seahawks led by linebacker Conor Colasurdo had the best defense in Class II by more than 100 points allowed. They are in line to win the coveted Rutgers Trophy given to Nassau's best team.
7. ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST GIRLS SOCCER
After dethroning two-time defending state champion St. Anthony's and defeating Sacred Heart for the league championship, the Cougars went on to win a state title. Gianna Giruox scored two goals and Bridget Patch had two assists in a 2-1 win over Kennedy Catholic.
8. GARDEN CITY GIRLS SOCCER
Haley O'Hanlon had a legendary performance in the state semifinals, recording a hat trick in a 3-0 win over Burnt Hills. Katherine Galzerano then scored the winner off an assist from Lauren Miesemer to give the Trojans a 1-0 win over Honeoye-Falls Lima in the Class A state championship game.
9. SACHEM EAST FIELD HOCKEY
An impressive run finally came to an end in the Class A state final: the Flaming Arrows lost for the first time since October 2011. Shenendehowa rallied to upset Sachem East, 3-2, in a 1-0 shootout round to dethrone the two-time defending champions. Sachem East's 50-game win streak was the sixth longest in state history.
10. NORTHPORT BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
The Tigers are headed to Portland, Oregon! After finishing second in the Nike Cross Regional in Wappingers Falls, Northport will compete at Nike Cross Nationals Saturday in Oregon. Mike Brannigan won the state race in 15 minutes, 29.9 seconds. Northport finished second in Class A at the state championships at on Nov. 9.
